John Finch, aged about 60 years, a well known resident of this county, living east of Mace, died yesterday at about 11 o’clock of heart failure.
John Finch died at his home, two miles east of Mace, Thursday, Feb. 11, 1897, at the age of 59 years, 5 months and 1 day. He was born in Union County, Indiana, Sept. 10, 1837, and on Feb. 2, 1871, he was married to Sarah Caster. To them were born four children, one daughter and three sons.
During his late sickness he was an intense sufferer until just about noon Thursday, when he suddenly and quietly passed away.
During the dark days of public danger he so loved his country as to give his services and enlist in the 154th Reg. Ind. Vol. Inf., Co. K.
Mr. Finch was one of our honored citizens and was widely known over the county. He was loved by his neighbors and acquaintances, and especially in his home life where he was best known and fully appreciated, and where his kindness shed constant sunshine.
The funeral services took place at the M. E. Church at Mace Saturday at 11 o’clock, conducted by Rev. H. C. Riley. His large circle of friends and high standing in the community were evidenced by the large concourse of persons who gathered to pay tribute to him and to follow him to his last and select resting place. Thus another of our good citizens has gone from labor to reward.
