Crawfordsville – Willie N. Ferrell, 63, a veteran of WWI and II died at 10 p.m. Monday in Culver Hospital where he had been a patient three days after suffering a stroke.  He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Donald McMurry of Darlington and two brothers, Raymond of Judson and Charles of Rockville. – kbz

Crawfordsville – Police are investigating the death of Willie Noble Ferrell, 63.  He died Monday night after being found unconscious Saturday morning on the lawn of a downtown club.  Coroner Fred Blix said an autopsy indicated Ferrell was hit over the right eye with a flat instrument and said there was “a great suspicion of foul play.” - kbz

Crawfordsville – Police started an investigation Wednesday after Coroner Fred M. Blix reported a “great suspicion of foul play,” in a retired farmer’s death from a skull fracture.  Willie Noble Ferrell, 63 died Monday night after being found unconscious Saturday morning on the lawn of a downtown club.  Friends told police they had taken Ferrell home to his downtown apartment Friday night, believing him drunk from a party they had attended.  Dr. Blix said an autopsy indicated Ferrell had been hit over the right eye with a flat instrument. – kbz

Crawfordsville – Mrs. Ruth Bishop, 41 years old, Crawfordsville yesterday was found guilty in Montgomery Circuit Court of assault and battery in connection with the death of Willie Noble Ferrell, 63 last June 15.  Her husband, Francie Eugene Bishop, 27 was acquitted. Both were charged with assault and battery.  Ferrell died several hours after visiting the Bishop home where he had been struck on the head with a lamp during an argument police said. Judge Howard A. Sommer fined Mrs. Bishop $25 and suspended a 90 day jail term.
