Phylenia A. Ferguson was born Nov. 10, 1843, and died Oct. 9, 1896, aged 52 years and 11 months. She was married to John Cook Aug. 11, 1863, and to them were born nine children, there being only two living. Her husband dying in March, 1879, she married Matthias Ferguson in November, 1881, and to them was born two children, Effie and Walter, the former dying in May, 1892.

Kate, as she was generally called, was a loving mother, a kind sister, neighbor and friend and loved by all who knew her. She has had many toils and hardships through life, but she has gone to that happy land where sorrow and suffering come no more. She has gone to meet her loved ones who have gone before her.

She was sick seven long weeks but bore her suffering with patience and often said, “I am not to be here long, but you will all be left to follow.”

She was a faithful member of the Old School Baptist Church.

She leaves a husband, three children, one grandchild, two sisters, five brothers, and a host of friends to mourn her loss. She was laid to rest in the Hutton Cemetery, 4 ½ miles northeast of Crawfordsville.
