Evans - Weltie

As George Evans was moving back from Illinois last week in the night, his little son, Weltie, who was sleeping in the back part of the wagon, fell out on the frozen ground, fracturing his skull, from the effects of which he died in a very short time. It being his request to be buried in Indiana, he was brought over here and interred last Friday at Mount Pleasant.

In our Round Hill correspondence last week was an account of a fatal accident which befell a little son of George Evans as the family was moving back to this county from Illinois. The Attica Ledger furnishes the following additional particulars of the accident; “One of the saddest sights that has ever fallen to our lot to chronicle, was witnessed on our streets a few days ago. A farmer, whose name we failed to obtain, was removing with his family from Illinois to Montgomery County. When only a few miles from his starting point, one of the children, a little boy of four years, fell from the wagon and broke his neck. He was picked up dead and placed in a little store box at the rear of the wagon, and a white cloth spread over him, and thus they had journeyed for two days when they arrived here. The mother and little brothers and sisters were crouched in front, shivering with cold, and with saddened faces. The sight shocked all who witnessed it, as well it might.”
