WAYNETOWN – Merch Erwin, 66, died in his Waynetown home at 6:10 a.m. today. A retired farmer, he had moved from his Elmdale farm to Waynetown in 1967. Since retirement he had worked summers for the County Highway Department. Prior to engaging in farming he had been employed by the Roger Ford Agency in Veedersburg. Mr. Erwin was a member of New Century Church south of Veedersburg and attended Veedersburg High School. Born May 4, 1905, he was a son of Thomas and Nellie Allen Erwin. He was married Dec. 5, 1925, to Doris Minnick of Waynetown. Survivors include the widow; a son, Malcoln of Greencastle; two sisters, Mrs. Cy (Hazel) Van Veventer of Veedersburg and Mrs. Gladys Hesler of Danville, Ill.; two grandchildren, and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by an infant sister. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Servies-Thomas Funeral Home in Waynetown with Rev. Rob James officiating. Burial will be in Bonebrake Cemetery near Veedersburg. Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. Friday. – jlr
