Harry C. ENGLISH, who started his career as a store clerk in Waveland his native town died of a heart attack last Monday at 6:30 a.m. at Mercy Hospital, Gary. After receiving his training as a clerk in a Waveland store, he opened his own establishment at West Lebanon in 1910 and later in partnership with a Mr. Goodman, he opened the Boston Store in a new town of Gary where he prospered until the panic 20 years ago when the Boston Store was closed. Mr. English was active in the affairs of Gary, having been president of the old Commercial Club and later Chamber of Commerce Rotary & Masonic fraternities. Since the Boston Store was closed, he had been in semi-retirement. He had on occasion acted as manager of different stores in Gary. - kbz
