James Deneen Elwell, eldest son of Elijah and Scyche Patton Elwell was born in Veedersburg in Nov 25, 1848 and departed this life in Crawfordsville, Ind May 7, 1914 aged 65 Years 5 months and 10 days. When four years of age he with his parents moved to this immediate neighborhood where he lived until five years ago when he went south for his health remaining there only about 6 months. He returned to Crawfordsville where he has since made his home with his only daughter, Mrs. Carter. He was united in holy wedlock to Miss Cinderella DonHan Jan 10, 1875. To this union was born one daughter, Miss Ola Paschal, a niece of Mrs. Elwell who was taken into their home at the age of 4 was raised to womanhood in their home. He united with the United Brethren Church in 1897 under the pastoral labors of Rev. Rosenbarger and has since lived a consecrated and devoted Christian life, ever exemplifying the Spirit of Christ. Deceased was most hospitable to all a kind and affectionate father, a dutiful and loving husband. He was highly esteemed by all who knew him. His devoted wife having preceded him to the spirit world in 1907 ? he leaves to mourn his decease one daughter, one granddaughter, one brother, one foster daughter and a host of friends and relatives. - kbz
