Elmore - Mary M.

Mary M. Elmore was born May 30, 1849, and died June 28, 1890. In early life she gave her heart to Christ and was a humble follower of Him until He took her to Himself. She was quiet and reserved in disposition and those loved her most who knew her best. She was the third child of six children and the third member of the family to enter into rest, her oldest brother having died while in the service for his country, July 2, 1862, and her father having passed away Feb. 14, 1879. Many times during her long illness which continued for a year, she would say, “I’m so tired” but never a murmur escaped her lips. In patience she bore her great suffering, only fearing that her mother would overtax her strength in caring for her. “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away.” It was a sad feature of the funeral that her two brothers who live in Nebraska were not permitted to be present. The funeral services were conducted on Sunday afternoon at the residence of Daniel Gilkey, near Alamo, by Dr. Cunningham in the presence of a large number of neighbors and friends. - thanks S
