The funeral of John Elmore, whose death occurred Wednesday afternoon, will occur this afternoon at 2 o’clock, the services to be conducted by Revs. Greene and Stafford. Interment will be at Oak Hill.
John Elmore was born in Dearborn County, Indiana, September 18, 1818. He was the son of John Elmore and wife and came to this county with them in 1825, being therefore, at the time of his death the oldest resident of this county. The first settlement was made by Wm Offield in 1821, but there were no other white settlers until 1822. Mr. Elmore was raised on the farm on which he died, just east of town. He was married twice, first to a Miss Huffman and after her death to a Miss McClaskey. He had no children and his present wife survives him.
Mr. Elmore joined the M. E. Church in 1843 and was a devout and consistent member of the same to the time of his death.
He leaves one brother and three sisters, Charles W. Elmore and Lovia Elmore, of this city, Mrs. Matthias McClure, of Frankfort, and Mrs. Elizabeth White of Iowa. They alone survive of a family of fifteen children.
In the death of Mr. Elmore, Montgomery County loses one of her noblest and most respected citizens.
