Montgomery Ellis, a young man only 22 years of age, a farm hand living a few miles east of Ladoga became tired of living and becoming convinced the shortest way out of it was the best, he killed himself. On last Thursday he did the deed and the consummate care with which he did it shows he was a youth of rare neatness not to say good taste. He had been out in the fields at work, it seems when the notion of self-destruction first struck him and he forthwith proceeded to the house where he carefully dressed himself in his best clothing, first neatly shaving, washing and even blacking his boots. He then took down a rifle, walked back of the house ,put the muzzle to his temple and pulled the trigger. In his vest pocket was a note giving direction for his funeral. His mother committed suicide some years since and he seemed to think that the proper way out of the rude world’s bustle. Deputy Corner Russell held an inquest… (rest has a large white stipe down it but basically his death was ruled as suicide).
