Waynetown Sept 6 - Tuesday noon at his home on East Main Street occurred the death of John N., Ellis, in his 65th year after an illness that confined him to his home most of the time for the past year. Johnnie Ellis as he was called by every one was born Oct 14, 1846, the youngest of Boaz and Sarah Ellis. Besides the wife, who was Miss Laura Little, he leaves two grown daughters, Misses Blanche and Nellie; also one brother, Israel Ellis, living here and one sister, Mrs. Foster Fields, living at East Oakland, Calif. His father was one of Wayne Township's pioneers and his mother, Sarah Nelson. When he was 15 years of age he with Job Westfall of New Richmond enlisted in the Civil War as musicians, drummer and fifer respectively, and served with distinction and honor through the war of the rebellion, belonging to the 6 3rd Indiana Regiment of which his older brother, William was also a member. His brother Israel was also a soldier. When the war was over he returned to Waynetown and with the exception of a few years in Attica has always been a resident of this township. Until the last 3 years he has always with his comrade, Job Westfall, attended all soldiers' reunions within reach, whether it was his own regiment or not, and furnished the martial music for the occasion. This gave him a very extended acquaintance. He has been a member of the IOOF Lodge here for a number of years and they will have charge of the funeral which will occur Thursday afternoon at the home at 2 o'clock. Rev. John G. Benson of Terre Haute will preach the funeral discourse - kbz
