Charles E. Ellis, a native of Montgomery County and a resident of Crawfordsville for 26 years, died at his home, 1103 W. Market, about 1:30 o’clock Thursday morning. Mr. Ellis was 72 years of age and had been ill for some time, but his serious sickness dated only from Monday of this week. Complete funeral arrangements have no been made but there will be short services held at the home in this city and the body will be taken to Waynetown for burial.  Mr. Ellis was born in Waynetown June 21, 1839. He came to Crawfordsville in 1885 and for a time was engaged in the grocery business but had lived a retired life for some time past. When the Civil War broke out, he enlisted Company D 63d Indiana regiment. He served with credit during the war. He was a member of the Baptist Church in this city and also was affiliated with Montgomery Lodge No 50 F&AM. The funeral services will be in charge of the Masons. Mr. Ellis is survived by a widow and five children, all daughters. They are Mrs. Lucy Cord, Mrs. Daisy Long and Violet Ellis, all of this city; Grace Ellis of Baraboo, Wis and Mrs. Harry Stevens of Oklahoma. - kbz
