ALVIN EGNEW

Source: Unknown

Alvin M. Egnew, Sgt. 40th Indiana Infantry was killed during the Battle of Missionary Ridge, near Chattanooga, Tennessee. He is buried in the National Cemetery in Chattanooga, though his name is misspelled on the gravestone as Alvin M. Egnow. The Cemetery records have his name recorded with the correct spelling, though the stone is misspelled. Alvin was mustered in with the 40th Indiana at Lafayette, Indiana and fought on the last day at Shiloh, as well as at other Middle Tennesse Battles and skirmishes
