Darlington – Daisy Oakley East, 78, died at 11 a.m. Thursday July 10 at Williamsburg Health Care, Crawfordsville. She had been ill for an extended period of time.  Born March 3, 1919 in Terre Haute, she married Clarence East on Feb 17 1941. He died in 1982.  Mrs. East co-owned and operated the East Food Market and Delicatessen in Glendale Shopping Center in Indianapolis with her husband until 1965 when they moved to Darlington and owned and operated the East Grocery store until Mr. East’s death.  She was a member of the Christian Church in Garfield. Surviving are a son, David East of Darlington; a daughter, Judy Bogardus of Darlington and a sister, Mrs. John (Alice) Schmidt of Terre Haute.

Funeral notices: Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Saturday at Burkhart Funeral Home, Darlington. Service there at chapel 2 p.m. Sunday; the Rev. Bill Cadle officiating.  Interment Greenlawn cemetery, Darlington.  Five grandchildren and 4 great grandchiler.  Preceded in death by a son, Dennis East and two brothers, Lester and Walter Oakley. – klbz

Daisy Oakley East 78 Darlington formerly of Indianapolis died July 10. She and her husband, the late Clarence East, owned and operated East Grocery, Darlington for 17 years, retiring in 1982. Previously they owned and operated East Food Market and Delicatessan in Glendale Shopping Center. She was a member of Garfield Ind Christian Church.  Services 2 p.m. July 13 in Burkhart Funeral Home, Darlington Chapel with calling from 4-7 p.m. July 12. Burial Greenlawn Cemetery, Darlington. Survivors children Judy Bogardus, David East; sister Alice Schmidt; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren. – kbz
