Laura Belle Hicks Earp was born in Brown Township, July 21, 1867 and died Sept 17, 1902, aged 35 years 1 months and 27 days. She was a daughter of Allen and Martha Hicks of Brown township, where she spent her girlhood days. In early womanhood she united with the Missionary Baptist Church of Brownsvalley, but lately placed her membership in the Trinity ME Church of this city. She was married to Oscar F. Earp Sept 26, 1886. To this union were born three children, two girls and one boy, who survive her. She was a faithful wife and loving mother, and had a wide circle of relatives and friends by whom she was beloved. She had been a sufferer for many years from a complication of diseases, but bore her suffering patient until death called her to the home of the just, where it is hoped she will be met by the grief stricken husband and children. Dear wife and mother, we sadly miss thee from our home, but we take up the burden of life again, saying only (it might have been) farewell for we know: Thou art gone to dwell in the Mansion’s fair, Built by a Master Hand, Beyond the tomb and beyond the skies, In the beautiful Heavenly land. .
