Waynetown - Miss Phebe M. Earl, 68, one of the best known and most highly respected residents of this community died at her home here Thursday night at 9:30 o'clock following an extended illness. Miss Earl was stricken with paralysis Dec 11, 1933 and never recovered. The deceased was one of the outstanding Christian women of the community. She had been active in community affairs for many years. For a number of years, she was the Waynetown correspondent for both the Crawfordsville Journal and the Crawfordsville Review before the two papers were merged. Miss Earl was born March 23, 1866, the daughter of Enoch and Eliza Peed Earl. She was never married. She was a member of the Waynetown Christian Church. The deceased spent all of her life in Wayne Township and for a number of years was a teacher in the schools of the county. The only immediate survivor is a nephew, James Earl of Indianapolis. A number of distant relatives also survive. The funeral services will be held at the Waynetown Christian Church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, in charge of Rev. WH Newlin of Crawfordsville. Burial will be in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. The body will life in state at the church for one hour preceding the funeral services. - kbz

Waynetown July 20 – Miss Phebe Earl, 68, one of Waynetown’s most outstanding and beloved women, died at 9:30 o’clock Thursday night at her home here. She had been ill since last December with paralysis. Miss Earl was born on a farm here, March 23, 1866, a daughter of Enoch and Eliza (Peed) Earl, and had lived in Wayne Township all her life. She never married. For a number of years she taught in county schools and was a member of the Christian Church. Surviving are a nephew, James Earl, Indianapolis and number of distant cousins. The body will life in state at the Christian Church Sunday afternoon from 1:30 to 2:30 o’clock. Funeral services will be held at the latter hour with Rev. WH Newlin, Crawfordsville officiating; interment in Waynetown Masonic cemetery. - kbz
