There was a surprise party met at Mr. L.F. Galey's of Brown Township, on t he 24th to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Mrs. Jane Ellis. Mrs. Ell is is the mother of Mrs. L.F. Galey. A more dignified and honorable s et of aged persons possibly have never met on such an occasion. This fami ly is one of pure Democracy (and I apprehend all readers of your valuable paper) as is found in Montgomery County. They are decendants of Warren and Jane Davis of Ky, who lived to be near a hundred years old. The aggregate age of this family (all present but one) is 1021 years. Their average age near 64. They are a long lived people, so you see it is healthy to be a consistent Democrat. Their names are as follows: Stephen Allen and wife; Thomas Davis and wife; Isaac Davis of Ky, Charles Allen and w ife, Jane Ellis, Caleb Davis and wife; Samuel Davis and wife; all their ages ranging between 48 and 76 years. With these assembled a number of friends and relatives. After the usual greeting of friends and relatives thus a ssembled and after spending an hour or two sosically and listening to very fine music we were invited out to as fine a dinner as was ever provid ed by the intelligent daughter of the matron, or by anyone on any other occasion. Sufficient to say it was most magnificent. After all was done a nd served the party assembled in the parlor, where presents were present ed through the writer and responded to in behalf of Mrs. Ellis by their ne ighbor, JW Hanna. After which some closing remarks appropriate to the occasion were offered by the writer and a joyous greeting by the hand givers to Mrs. Ellis, while sweet music in that good old gym, "Sweet by and by ," filled the house and floated out upon the breeze. All was lovely & joyous beyond description. The party then dispersed to their homes made happi er and better by the occasion. - kbz
