Henrietta Owen, daughter of Thomas and Mary NORCROSS, was born Aug 10, 1864 and departed this life March 14, 1934, her age 69Years, 7 months and 14 days. She was born in Rockbridge County, Virginia. At the age of 12 years, she with her family came to Indiana and located in Parke County near Marshall, where she lived most of her life until the last three years she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Frank Gillis in Cayuga. At an early age, she became a Christian and united with the Presbyterian Church in Marshall to which she remained loyal, true and faithful. She was united in marriage Oct 29, 1884 to Charles Durham, who preceded her in death about 13 years ago. She has been an invalid most of the time for the past 16 years, untila few weeks ago she became very ill and although everything was done that loving hearts and hands could do, she fell asleep at 7;10 p.m. to awaken no more in this world. Mrs. Durham was quiet and unassuming and made many friends. She loved her home and children best of all. What is sweeter than the love of a kind and gentle mother? She is the morning and the evening star of life and the angel spirit of the home. She leaves to mourn seven children: Guy, Tom and Fred Durham and Mrs. Margaret Demaree of Waveland, Mrs. Bonnie Cheeseman of Danville, Il, Claude Durham of Marshall, IN and Mrs. Lucy Gillis of Cayuga, In. Two sisters, Mrs. Lucy Russell of Kewanna IN and Mrs. Winnie Walters of Rochester, IN, one brother Wm. Norcross of Terre Haute, 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild and other relatives and a host of friends. Mother is gone, her place can never be filled, yet we would not call her back, for we know she is at rest in Heaven. Sorrows are like clouds, which though black, become as garments of the Heavenly Master thrown off in purple and gold along the sky. Mother will not fear, Christ went before. ...
