George T. Durham, who has been critically ill for several weeks died on Saturday morning. Funeral srvices at the home on Monday afternoon were conducted by Rev. John Caldwell of Crawfordsville. Emerson E Ballard of Crawfordsville had charge of the Masonic ceremonies. Burial at Freedom cemetery. Mr. Durham was the son of J. Youse and Martha Tarkington Durham and was born in Boyle County, Ky Aug 10, 1846. When he was four years old his father took his wife and four children and drove through to Indiana settling on some land NW of Waveland that had been entered by his father, John Durham in 1822. Later he acquired the land known as the Durham homestead where George grew to manhood. He married Miss Betty North of Brook Station, KY who with four children survive: Mrs. HH Elmore of Crawfordsville; Mrs. Newton Fullenwider of Waveland; Roscoe of Portland, Ore and Henry of Hammond. There are also six grandchildren. Mr. Durham was a successful farmer. He owned the farm near Byron now belonging to Frank Whelchel and while there, served as township trustee. he then bought the farm where OG Swanay now lives, and remained there until he quit farming on account of failing health and moved to Waveland. There are two brothers living J. Bell and Will Y. and one sister, Mrs. Laura Rue of Danville, Ky. Those attending the funeral from a distance were: Mrs. Lucille Durham and thomas Durham of Graysville; harry Durham and sister of Jamestown and Leland Durham and Mrs. Raymond Durham of Indianapolis. - kbz
