Source: 10 April 1885 Crawfordsville Saturday Evening Journal

John Duncan died at the house of his son-in-law, William Forbes, in McPherson, Kansas on April 8 in his 75th year of his age. The deceased was the only surviving brother of Dr. JR Duncan of this city. He was a native of Ohio and came to this county about the year 1843. He volunteered with his son, W.S. Duncan in Co B 10th Indiana Regiment and although then old served faithfully until disabled when he was honorably discharged. Soon after he removed to Iowa where he remained until a little more than two years ago when he went to McPherson, Kansas on account of most of his children being there. Friends from here attended his golden wedding April 1, 1884 consequently he had been married 51 years and 3 days when he died. The wife of his youth is left to mourn his departure. He was a member of the Methodist Church for nearly 50 years and died as he had lived, a Christian. - thanks to Kim H
