James Barton Duncan, aged 37 years, died of pneumonia Thursday, Feb. 4, at 6 o'clock at his home on south Green street, after an illness of nine days. The body was shipped to Covington Saturday at noon and the funeral occurred there on Sunday afternoon. Mr. Duncan was born in Ohio, but passed most of his life at Covington. He came to Crawfordsville only a few months ago and established a pantaloons factory on south Washington street, manufacturing the materials of the Yount's woolen mills. He was building up a good business and had established a reputation for square dealing and honesty. He was a thorough business man and a quiet, unassuming gentleman of that character whose loss falls heavy on any community. Mr. Duncan was a Mason and an Odd Fellow. He leaves a wife and four children. The pantaloons factory will be continued by his father, James M. Duncan until so long, at least, as the business can be disposed of. -- transcribed by Kim H
