Dunbar - Sarah Stover

Source: Crawfordsville Weekly Journal Friday, 28 December 1900

Mrs. Sarah Dunbar died last Saturday at about half past three o’clock at the home of her son-in-law, William Morgan, on East Market Street, from the infirmities of old age, being over 92 years old. Mrs. Dunbar had been failing since the last of October, and her death was not unexpected. The funeral occurred last Sunday afternoon from the home at 2 o’clock, conducted by Rev. H. L. Nave, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church. Interment was at Oak Hill.

Sarah Stover was born in Carter County, Tennessee, Oct. 29, 1808, and at the age of three years emigrated with her parents to what was then Indiana Territory, settling in Union County. The first summer was spent in a fort, the Indians at that time being on the warpath. She endured all the hardships incident to life on the frontier, and at the age of seventeen years was married to Andrew Dunbar, who died in July, 1877. To them were born twelve children, eight daughters and four sons, five of whom survive their mother. They are Mrs. Elizabeth Phillips, of Kokomo; Mrs. Livonia Kennedy, of Liberty; Mrs. Mary Sidener, of Silver City, Iowa; and David and William Dunbar, of Wichita, Kan.

Mrs. Dunbar had lived in this city about twenty three years and had many friends. She joined the Newlight Church at an early age and later the Christian Church and her life was always a consistent Christian one, full of good work and a beautiful example for her children. She died full of years, but her labors live after her. - thanks so much to "S" for all her great work on the obit pages of this site!
