Mrs. May Klein Duckworth, wife of Harry W. Duckworth, 509 E. Wabash Avenue, died shortly before midnight Monday at Culver Hospital where she had been a patient the past several days. One of the most widely known and best beloved women of Crawfordsville, Mrs. Duckworth had lived her entire life in this city. She was born in Crawfordsville, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Madison C. Klein, prominent residents of pioneer parentage. Her father for many years conducted a jewelry store on East Main Street where the Golden Rule store is now located. Her mother, the former Alice R. Smith was the daughter of Squire Smith, pioneer druggist. Mrs. Duckworth graduated from the Crawfordsville HS with the class of 1890. Later for two or three years she attended LaSalle Seminary in Boston, Mass a leading eastern school for young women. Talented as a musician, Mrs. Duckworth sang for many years in the Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church quartet. Mrs. Duckworth was a member of the well known quartette called the Baldwin quartette which give concerts here and in other cities in this section of Indiana. In the quartette with Mrs. Duckworth were Mary Campbell Crane, Edna Rice Robertson and Maude Cowan Hulet and Mayme Wilhite Kennedy as reader. Mrs. Duckworth was a life long member of the Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church. She was a member of Athens Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star; the Crawfordsville Dramatic Club, the Crawfordsville Country Club and the Crawfordsville Music Club. Mrs. Duckworth was one of three children born to Mr. and Mrs. Klein. Her older brother, C.H. Klein was for many years associated with their father in the jewelry store. He died a number of years ago. The other brother died when one year of age. Following their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Duckworth resided in the Klein residence in East Wabash Avenue. Mr. Duckworth, owner of the Smith & Duckworth Lumber & Coal yard in East Market Street survives, together with a niece, Miss Katherine Klein, residing with her mother, Mrs. Maude V. Kline, south Washington Street. Funeral services will be held at the residence, 509 E. Wabash at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon, Dr. RG Riemann, pastor of the Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church will be in charge. The body will remain at the John G. Utterback Funeral Home until 11 o'clock Thursday morning when it will be taken tot he residence. Friends may call at the funeral home until that hour. Burial will be made in the family lot in Oak Hill.
