Hillsboro - Charles H. Drake, 79, died in Culver Hospital about 5 p.m. Tuesday after a long illness. He had been in the hospital a week. Prior to that time, he was in Veterans Hospital at Indianapolis for four weeks. He was a carpenter and veteran of the Spanish-American War. Mr. Drake was a member of Hillsboro Methodist Church and United Spanish War Veterans. He had lived in Hillsboro since 1916. Born Jan 1, 1879, in Greene county, he was the son of Nathanial and Permelia Drake. He was married to Mary Wooten in 1906. She preceded him in death. He was married to Nellie Hiatt, Sept 4, 1941. Survivors include the widow; a son, T/Sgt. Robert E. Drake of Shaw Air Force Base, S.C.; a daughter, Mrs Gretchen Ludlow of Hillsboro; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Methodist Church with Rev. Sheldon Garriott officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services. Friends may call at the Crumley Funeral Home Thursday.
