New Market June 2 – Funeral services
were held on Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Baptist Church for Mrs. Lucy
Doyel whose death occurred at her home here on Wednesday morning May 30. The deceased was born in Montgomery County
March 13, 1841 and spent her entire life here where she has many friends and
neighbors, whose friendship she enjoyed and whose attentions she appreciated
and among whom she was familiarily known as “Aunt Lucy”. To those who
ministered to her during the last hours of her illness she made known her
desires for her funeral arrangements, selecting the place for service,
minister, pall bearers, flower bears and song which she loved these with other
requests have been carried out by her loved ones. Rev. AD Merrill, pastor of
the local Baptist Church was officiating minister. Pallbearers who were
grandsons of the deceased were Harry Hunt, Hazlett Hall, Claude Doyel, Leon
Doyel, Paul Doyel and Burl G. Doyel. Flower bearers were Lucille Hall, Fern
Patton, Inez Doye. And Wanetah Rush -f irst three named being granddaughters.
Face to Face, Nearer My God to Thee and Asleep in Jesus were the songs named
and were very sweetly sung by a quartette composed of Messrs Albert Armstrong,
Walter Pinkley, Mrs. Emma Armstrong and Miss Lucilee Rush. The deceased is survived by her husband,
Harrison Doyel with whom she has traveled the journey of life more than 55
years having united in marriage Aug 11, 1867; the three children which were
born to this union are: Mrs. Rose Hunt and of Browns Valley; John B. Doyel and
Mrs. Flavin Hall of near this place and 13 grandchildren and 8 great
grandchildren, one grandson Roy Hunt having preceded her in death. Interment
was made at Indian Creek Hill Cemetery. - kbz
