CARBON – Howard E. Dowen, 77, of Carbon died at 12:05 a.m. Friday in Clay County Hospital at Brazil. He was a retired farmer and was a member of Clay County Farm Bureau, Bridgeton Lodge 169, F&AM; and Parke and Clay County Past Masters Association. Born Sept. 4, 1898, at Carbon, he was a son of Enoch and Kathryn Bennett Dowen. He was married Dec. 13, 1919, to Irma Brown who survives. Also surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Helen Louise Remington of Rosedale, Mrs. June Kloster of Monticello, Mrs. Frances Beabout of Muncie, Mrs. Sue Barry of Clayton and Mrs. Anne James of Plainfield; a sister, Mrs. Orlean K. Bradshaw of Brazil; 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Butler Funeral Home at Rockville with the Rev. J Stanley Howell officiating. Burial will be in Memory Garden Cemetery at Rockville. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Sunday. – jlr
