John Vincent Doty died Friday. He was 78. He was born April 27, 1933, to Clarence LeRoy and Martha Jane Doty. He joined the Marines in 1950 and served a tour in Korea during the Korean Conflilct, and discharged in 1957. He was a long-time resident of Montgomery County and worked for the Floor Covering Shop during the late 1950’s through 1970’s. He then had his own business, Doty’s Floor Covering, until he worked as a tool and die setter for Allison Transmission at Indianapolis. He retired from the Indiana Army National Guard in 1988. He was then transferred to the Allison plant in Janesville, Wisc. where he retired. He moved to Bowling Green, Ky., where his wife, Virginia, retired from the Allison plant there. They raised horses. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and U.S. Marines Association. He was a member of the Living Hope Baptist Church, Bowling Green, Ky. He is survived by his wife; sons, John V. Jr. of Peru and Andrew Michael of Richmond, Ky.; daughters, Alice Louise Shue of Brownsburg and Sarah Jane Wagner of Crawfordsville; stepsons, Jeff Sheffield of Bowling Green, Ky. and Todd Sheffield of Bloomington; 11 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-step-grandchildren. Arrangements are pending at Hardy & Sons Funeral Home, Bowling Green, Ky.
