Donovan - Charles
Source: Crawfordsville Weekly Journal Friday, 23 February 1900
Last week we stated that Charles Donovan was very low with no hopes of his recovery. On Wednesday afternoon he passed from life unto death at the home of his father, J. H. Donovan, one and one half miles south of town, aged 27 years, 3 months and 10 days. He was one of the finest and brightest young men in the community, always ready to lend a helping hand in every time of need. He was a member of the M. E. Church and the Knights of Pythias, having become a member soon after coming of age and had ever been a faithful member. About two years ago his health began to fail having symptoms of dropsy with other complications. When spring came he improved and was much better until last fall when he began to fail rapidly. About six weeks ago he was some better and came to town one fine day, but soon after began going down rapidly which ended on the 15th. He was the friend of everyone and everyone was his friend, and everyone mourns his loss. Death is a sad thing at any time, but to come to one so young, so full of promise and such bright prospects before him, it is doubly sad. The funeral was held on Friday the 16th, at the M. E. Church under the auspices of the K. of P. and conducted by Rev. C. W. Postill and was very largely attended. – thanks so much to S for this one
