Leslie Fred DINWIDDIE, a former Waveland man was instantly killed by a Monon passenger train near Advance at 1:41 o'clock Monday afternoon. Dinwiddie was trapped in his jeep and was carried some distance before the train could be stopped. The accident occured at a crossing near the Ray Young residence, where Dinwiddie was employed and was witnessed by Young and his daughter-in-law Patricia Yount. Dinwiddie was born in Fountain County July 26, 1917, the son of Fred and Amy Shultz Dinwiddie and lived NW of Waveland in the house now occupied by Harold Sowers. He was a graduate of Waveland HS in the class of 1935, and served in WWII and saw action in the Pacific Theater from which he was discharged a technical sergeant with several medals of distinction. He was a member of the Freedom Baptist Church, American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. He was married to Helen FORD of Oakland, California Dec 24, 1943 - the anniversary of which he was killed. Ther remain the widow, two daughters, Leslie Kay and Mary Kathleen, at home; his mother, of Hillsboro; twi sisters, Mrs. Ruby Sowers, of Waveland and Mrs. Grace Myers of near Wayneotwn besides nephews and nieces. The funeral was held today at Proffit & Sons Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. John Servies. The legion conducted their graveside ritual. -- kbz
