George W. Dickerson, Sr. 83 retired grocer died Wednesday morning at 4 o'clock at his home 200 W. Market Street. He had been ill but a short time and death followed a stroke of paralysis. A resident of Crawfordsville most of his life, Mr. Dickerson was born at Jamestown July 20, 1858 the son of John and Linnie Dickerson. He was united in marriage with Mary E. Coyle Dec 26, 1882 at Danville, Ill and following his marriage established residence in the home where he died. Mr. Dickerson was a charter member of the local order of Eagles & POSA and had been in the grocery business in Crawfordsvlle 50 years. He was affectionately known to his many friends as "Uncle George." Surviving are the widow, four sons, George W, Jr and John and Frank all of this city and Lewis of Lafayette/ three daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Smedley of South Bend, Mrs. Mae Lucas of LaCrosse and Mrs. Linnie Coyner of Miami, FL, 19 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and a cousin, Martha Jane Nasier, who resides at the Dickerson home. Preceding him in death were a son, James and a daughter, Maggie.
