Dr. George W. Dewey, 80 years of age and one of the prominent older residents of Crawfordsville died Sunday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. WC Breaks in that city. Dr. Dewey who for many years was one of the well known physicians of Montgomery County was born near New Richmond, August 24, 1844, the son of Washington and Elizabeth Dewey. He was married on March 4, 1871 (sic – 1870) to Susan M. Alexander. The deceased practice medicine for over 45 years. He was prominent in his profession during the trying period when physicians traveled on horseback or on foot. It was said of Dr. Dewey that he at times walked as far as 10 miles to attend a patient. He was a member of the Christian Church and was a prominent Mason.
