WINGATE -- James Devault, 79, of Wingate, a retired farmer, died in his home at 1:15 p.m. Monday after a long illness. Mr. Devault farmed in the New Richmond area before his retirement. He had lived all his life in Tippecanoe and Montgomery counties. He moved to Wingate a year ago. Mr. Devault was a 60-year member of New Richmond Christian Church. He attended Sugar Grove schools in Tippecanoe County. He was born May 15, 1895, south of Lafayette, a son of Thomas L. and Fannie Granger Devault. He was first married to Nettie McCabe in 1917. She died in 1958. He was married to Inez Fenters of Wingate in 1959. Surviving with her are two sons, James H. Devault of Rt. 1, Romney and Kyle Devault of Otterbein; a stepson, James Fenters of Crawfordsville; a stepdaughter, Florence Fenters of Mobile. Ala.; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and an infant sister. Services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Servies-Thomas Funeral Home at Waynetown with the Rev. Tom True and the Rev. Larry Call officiating. Burial will be in New Richmond Cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.--waw
