Alex Deets, 73, former well known resident of Lafayette, father of Charles R. Deets of this city and Indianapolis, division freight agent of the Nickel Plate railroad, died early Wednesday at his home in Detroit where he had resided for 36 years. His death followed shortly after his return home from a hospital where his condition had been serious for weeks.
A native of Alamo, Montgomery county, he came to this city as a young man and was associated with the Lafayette Transfer company. He resided here until 1904 when he moved to Detroit. For many years he was engaged in the commission business in Detroit, retiring four years ago. He had been a member of Lafayette Lodge of Elks since 1898. His first wife, the former Mary Seeger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Seeger, pioneers, died here in 1903. Years later, he re-married in Detroit, the widow surviving, also two sons, George of Detroit, and Charles R., of Lafayette and Indianapolis, who left here Wednesday for Detroit. Another survivor is a sister, Mrs. William Summerville of Crawfordsville. Funeral and burial in Detroit. – thanks Kim H
