Mrs. Nelle Hodgkins DEERE, daughter of Hugh and Clara Cowan Hodgkins was born on a farm north of Waveland, 72 years ago and died Friday march 21 at the hospital in Kerrville, Texas after a brief illness. Mrs. Deere grew up in this community, attended WHS and graduated with the class of 1903. She was married to Irvin C. Deere, Sept 17, 1906 and went to housekeeping on a farm near Russellville. Later they moved to a farm near Waveland and lived here and in Crawfordsville until 1926, when they moved to Dallas, Texas. She is survived by her husband and a son, Charles Hugh of Dallas, two daughters, Josephine Garner and Helen Shelly, both of Houston and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Burgess of near New Market and Mrs. Ethele Stilwell of Houston, one brother, Rev. Earl Hodgkins of Sanborn, Jowa; a brother-in-law, Alonzo Deere of Waveland and a cousin, Edith Rice of Waynetown. Funeral services were held in Kerrville, followed by graveside rites in Dallas. - typed by kbz
