Mrs. Deere was born on the farm south of town now owned by Earl Evans Oct 7, 1858. She was one of 5 children of Robert and Amanda Bloomfield. The others: John; Mrs. Viola Lough; Nannie and Mollie Bloomfield with the parents and the husband, Charles Deere have all preceded her in death. She married Charles Deere Dec 19, 1889. She joined the Christian Church when it was in the frame building at the west end of Main Street. Her father and mother were charter members of the congregation. When the new Church was erected, the entire family were members and had a large part in financing and maintaining it. She was a charter member of the Missionary Society and also Ladies' Aid and continued her membership in the latter until her death. She had served as secretary and treasurer of the Aide and made valuable contributions of time and money to Church activities when her health permitted. Well known for her beautiful handiwork, she contributed generously to the garment sales in years gone by. She was a charter member of the Priscilla Club and greatly enjoyed that type of work. During the WW she was active in the Red Cross work in their sewing room and in her home. She left unfinished a sweater as she was again knitting for the Red Cross. This will be finished by other hands. After the sons, Irving and Alonzo Deere were in homes of their own, Mr. and Mrs. Deere took into the home a ten year old girl, Audrey, and reared her to womanhood. She is now Mrs. Leon Mount. On her they lavished their affections and they were to her "uncle and Auntie". Since her declining health made it necessary to have someone with her she took into her home her niece, Mrs. Vona Hendrickson. Those surviving are the stepsons, Irving and Alonzo Deere and 5 nephews an nieces. - kbz
