The young couple lived on their farm near Freedom Church, where they lived and reared their family of six sons and three daughters. He was the eldest of 10 children and his death makes the first break in the family in 41 years, when the oldest sister died at the age of 21. The aged mother, six brothers and three sisters are left. Mr. Deere was a man of fine business qualifications and was possessed of a genial disposition which won him hosts of friends. His home was ever the center of the most open-handed hospitality. He was a life-long Republican and was active in the work which brought his party success for so many years. Mr. Deere united with the Primitive Baptist Church at Union, near Waveland, when quite a young man and he has ever been a believer in the doctrins of that denomination.
