Mrs. Ray Deere died at her home east of town on Thursday of last week after a lingering illness. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church on Saturday afternoon in charge of Rev. Olin Stewart. Interment at Union Cemetery. Jessie Hodgkin Deere was born in this county May 3, 1883. Her girlhood days were spent at the Hodgkin home northwest of town. She attended the school near her home and the Waveland HS. She became a member of the Methodist Church at this place Aug 6, 1899 and has been a faithful member throughout the years following. On March 16, 1904 she was united in marriage to Ray Deere. She fell asleep March 29, 1917, leaving her husband, six children, a father, five sisters, one brother and many other relatives and friends to mourn her early departure. She had been a patient sufferer for several months and during that time she never seemed to give up the fight, but she had intrusted herself to God and expressed that she believed He would take care of her. - kbz
