Mrs. J.T. Deere died at her home near Freedom, Friday, Nov 30 and was buried at Union on Sunday. Edna L. Canine was born near Waveland Oct 19, 1852. She joined Union Church and with 12 others was baptized on the last Sunday in May 1867. She married JT Deere, Dec 14, 1871. She was the mother of nine children, all of whom survive. Truly, one of the good mother, wives, sisters and neighbors has been called to try the realities of the unknown. Only as we view it by the same true faith that wafted her departed spirit into sweet rest and peace with God and in the happy presence of mother, brothers and sisters gone on before. Eulogies are out of place, for all who knew her, loved and respected her, and only wished they could be like her in this world and could enjoy the blest assurance of that sweet anchorage in the world to come. The funeral services at old Union chapel were conducted by Elder JH Oliphant in the presence of a large congregation. The music was furnished by the Freedom choir. - kbz
