Source: Waveland Independent Waveland, Montgomery County, Indiana March 13, 1925

Charles H. Deere, who has been seriously ill following a breakdown some months ago, developed acute pneumonia on Sunday and died early on Monday morning. Funeral services at the Christian Church on Wednesday afternoon were in charge of Rev. E.E. Moorman, pastor of the Frankfort Christian Church, assisted by Revs. J.B. Johnson and John Deere. Jesse Mitchell, R.H. Hodgkin, W.Y. Durham, T.S. Banta, John Sharp and Henry Fullenwider acted as pallbearers by Mr. Deere's request. Burial in Union Cemetery.

Mr. Deere was the son of Joel and Mary McGrigg Deere and was born on the old Deere homestead, south of Bluff Mills, May 13, 1858. He grew up on the farm, obtaining such education as was afforded by the schools of that day. He engaged in farming and married Miss Alice L. Canine. Two sons were born, who survive him: Irvine Deer of Crawfordsville and Alonzo of Waveland. Mrs. Deere died in 1888. He quit farming and engaged in stockbuying. In 1889 he married Lucindia Bloomfield, who survives him. Excepting a year on the home farm, he has lived in Waveland ever since. About 1880 he united with the Freedom Baptist Church. Throughout his life Mr. Deere has been a man of the strictest integrity, more than honest, and always courteous. His business made him a wide circle of acquaintances who always became friends. The warmth of this regard was evidenced by a crowded Church on Wednesday, the many floral offerings but more than all by the universally kind remarks made. He will be greatly missed. He served one term as township assessor, and was a member of the town board at the time of his last illness. Besides his wife and sons, he is survived by an adopted daughter, Mrs. Audrey Mount of North Salem; by four grandchildren: Wendell, Josephine, Helen and Charles Hugh Deere; by four brothers: John of Morristown, Tenn.; George of Crawfordsville; and Albert and Stephen of Browns Valley; by one sister, Mrs. W.T. Whittington, and one foster sister, Mrs. John Whittington of Cayuga. - kbz
