Mrs. Abbie Whittington Deere, 98, widow of William Deere, an uncle of AC Deere, died at Shelbyville with interment at Freedom Cemetery Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. A.C. Deere and Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Deere attended the funeral. -- kbz

Former Resident Widow of William Deere, a former resident of Montgomery County, died Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Kell, RFD 4, Shelbyville, where she had made her home for the past 25 years. Mrs. Deere was 95 years of age. The daughter of William and Rebecca Whittington, Mrs. Deere was born on a Montgomery County farm. Mrs. Deere was an aunt of Mrs. Carroll O. Beeson and of Mrs. George D. Manson, both of Crawfordsville. Her husband, William Deere, was a brother of George Deere, father of Mrs. Beeson and of Mrs. W.T. Whittington, the mother of Mrs. Manson. Mrs. Deere was a member of the Freedom Baptist Church, southwest of Crawfordsville. Burial will take place Sunday at 4 p.m. in the Freedom Cemetery where brief graveside services will be held. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday in the Sleeth Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Mrs. Deere is survived by two other daughters in addition to Mrs. Kell at whose home she died. They are Mrs. R.A. Billman, of Bradenton, Fla., and Mrs. B.A. Brackett, of Indianapolis. One brother, Walter Whittington, of Akron, Ohio, who attended Wabash College with the class of 1900, also survives. - thanks muches to Susan P for this one
