Nelson M. Deer, 88-year-old retired farmer, died at 5 p.m. Tuesday at his home on Rt. 1 Waveland. He had been seriously ill the last six weeks. Mr. Deer farmed all his life in Montgomery and Parke Counties. He was born in this county Nov. 12, 1875, to Tom and Edna Canine Deer. He was married March 16, 1898 to Minnie McCullough, who survives. He was a member of the old Primitive Baptist Church. Surviving besides the wife are four brothers, Claude of Warren, Roy of Terre Haute, Garnett of Newcastle, Del., and Raymond E. of Crawfordsville; two sisters, Mrs. Grace Waters of Warren and Mrs. Mary Sutherlin of Roachdale, and nieces and nephews. Mr. Deer was preceded in death by a brother and sister. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Friday at the Machledt & Servies Funeral Home here, with Rev. Lowell Mitchell officiating and burial in Old Union Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Thursday. - kbz
