Deckard - Charley

Linden- Charley Deckard, 87, a retired farmer and resident of this community since 1930, died Thursday in Carmen Nursing Home at Crawfordsville. He had been in ill health for two years. He was a member of Linden Kirkpatrick United Methodist Church. Born March 13, 1887, in Greene County, he was a son of William M. and Mary Jane Collins Deckard. He was first married in 1912 to Bessie June Camp, who died in 1949. He was married to Raney Arney in 1950. She survives. Other survivors are five sons, Charles L. of Port Lavaca, Tex., Glenn of Ladoga, Ralph and Carl of Crawfordsville and Myron of Lafayette; two daughters, Mrs. Alice Artman of Whitestown and Mrs. Phyllis Larew of Waynetown; a sister, Mrs. Anna Phillips of Rossville; two stepsons, Harry Potter of Muncie and Ernest Potter of Sanborn; 27 grandchildren, and 54 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Helms Funeral Home here with the Rev. Dr. Henry Oakes officiating. Burial will be in Linden Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 9 p.m. today. A family spokesperson said memorial gifts may be made to the Cancer Society. – thanks to Lena H
