Gary W. DeBaun, age 63, formerly of Crawfordsville, passed away at Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health Central in Lafayette on Monday Jan. 7, 2013. He had recently been a resident of the Veterans Home in West Lafayette. Born in Crawfordsville on Nov. 13, 1949, to Howard and Mildred Summers DeBaun, he grew up in Waynetown and graduated from Waynetown High School in 1968. He then graduated from Purdue University school of Aeronautics and Aviation program 1972. He joined the U.S. Air Force ROTC Program in September 1969 and completed his enlistment with the rank of Captain in 1988.Gary was employed by American Airlines as a commercial pilot until he was disabled in an auto accident in 1990. He was preceded in death by his parents.He is survived by: his son, Brad DeBaun (wife Christy) of Arizona; his daughter, Cynthia Dorsey of Kentucky; two grandsons, Hunter DeBaun of Arizona and Henry Dorsey of Kentucky; sister Mrs. Janice (husband Chuck) Hudson of Crawfordsville; five nephews; and his cllose friends Brad and Kathy Moore of Crawfordsville. Funeral services will be held at Shoemaker Funeral Home, 202 Bratton Road, Waynetown with Rev. Brian Hudson officiating. Burial will follow in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery with military honors.
