David DeVore

Source: Crawfordsville Daily Journal, Crawfordsville, Montgomery County, Indiana. Oct 5, 1921 (Wed)

The entire community was shocked Tuesday evening when it became known that David DeVore, 8-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Devore, east Wabash Avenue had passed away, following a few days' illness from meningitis. This is one of the saddest deaths to occur in this city for some time. The little fellow had had an attack of grippe and it is thought that he was left in a weakened condition. He had been in school however and Sunday attended Sunday School as usual. Monday morning he became ill and the attending physician diagnosed it as meningitis. Everything possible was done for the lad but to no avail and the end came at 5:30 Tuesday evening. David was born Oct 9, 1913, in this city. He was a bright spirited little fellow, cheerful and happy at all times and enjoyed life to the fullest. His death brings sorrow not only to the home directly affected but to all who knew him. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the bereaved parents. Besides the parents, David leaves a little sister, Margaret and a grandfather, John P. Kelsey. Funeral services were held this afternoon at 4 o'clock at the home and were in charge of Rev. MH Appleby, pastor of the first Methodist Church, burial took place at Oak Hill.  - typed by kbz
