Howard Swisher and Carl Denk went hunting on Christmas day near Tom Rice's ranch at Rannells, California. They got lost in the mountains but managed to find a moonshine still. They didn't sample the goods.

Mr. and Mrs. Owen Dooley received a telegram June 4th stating that Carl Dink (sic - Denk) had passed away at his home in Paso Robles, California. Carl and his brother, Albert Denk came to Waveland a number of years ago from New Palestine and established a successful grocery and meat business. In 1918 they sold their business to Mr. and Mrs. Al Evans and answered the call to service in WWI. Upon return, Carl and his wife, the former Miss Elizabeth RICE of Waveland went to California to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Rice. They remained in California and went into the ranching and cattle business from which they retired only a few years ago. Survivors are his wife and two brothers, Albert Denk of Delphi and Andrew Denk of Florida and several nieces and nephews.
