W. Ervin DeLong, 73, a retired farmer who lived at 611 Spring Valley Road, Quarryville, died at home Wednesday after a brief illness with liver cancer, according to a family spokesman.
He was the husband of Grace Kreider DeLong. The couple was married for 47 years.
DeLong and his family operated a dairy farm in East Drumore Township, and he also raised and sold poultry and produce in the Quarryville area.
A longtime director of the Solanco Fair Association, he also worked for the East Drumore Township board of elections.
An active member of Mechanic Grove Church of the Brethren since 1946, he served as a deacon and on various church committees. He was involved in the founding of Lampeter Church of the Brethren.
He enjoyed traveling in the United States and abroad, and he spent winter months in North Port, Fla., where his hobby was riding a three-wheeler.
Born in Quarryville, he was a son of the late Walter E. and Clara Shelley DeLong.
Besides his wife he is survived by a son, David, of Quarryville; four daughters: Linda, wife of Tom Hunter, and Nancy, wife of Robert Eshleman, both of Quarryville; Mary Ellen, wife of Tom Peffley, and Grace Ann, wife of Glenn Shoemaker, both of Lancaster; 10 grandchildren; and a sister, Betsy, wife of Art Bonholtzer of New Providence.

He also raised and sold a variety of poultry and produce in the Quarryville area. He was a longtime director of the Solanco Fair Association and worked at the East Drumore Township board of elections.
