Hillsboro - Stephen M. Davis, 71, former Hillsboro resident, died Saturday afternoon at the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where he underwent an operation last Tuesday. He was born in Hillsboro, the son of Stephen and Charlotte Keller Davis. He married Edna Warfield. Davis was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Hillsboro and Shrine in Indianapolis. He was a registered pharmacist, a graduate of Purdue and formerly operated a drugstore in Waynetown for a number of years. He became a public accountant after moving to Indianapolis and had returned to that city from Pheonix, AZ where he had been since last June because of his health, only 10 days ago. A former Hillsboro resident, Stephen M. Davis, 71 died Saturday afternoon March 18 at the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis according to a message received by Elwood Davidson Saturday evening.  Mr. and Mrs. Davis had resided in Indianapolis for a number of years but last June sold their home in the city and went to Phoenix, Arizona for the benefit of their health.  On March 8 they returned to Indianapolis by plane and Mr. Davis entered the hospital as a surgical patient undergoing an operation on March 1914. He was born near Hillsboro the son of Stephen and Charlotte Keller Davis and grew to manhood in this vicinity. He graduated from Purdue in pharmacy and owned and operated a drug store in Waynetown for several years.  He was married to Edna Warfield who survives with one son, Richard Davis of Indianapolis.  One son, Warfield, preceded him in death several years. Mr. Davis was a member of the Hillsboro Masonic lodge and a Shriner.  The family left Waynetown several years ago and resided in Indianapolis where he was a public accountant.  Other survivors are one sister Mrs. Vessie Johnson also of the city. The body was at the Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Home in the city where funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 10:30. At 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon a funeral service was conducted by the Rev. HL McBride, pastor of the Waynetown Methodist Church at the Grenard & Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown with burial in the Masonic cemetery. – kbz
