SIMON CLIFFORD "CLIFF" DAVIS

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Thomas Funeral Home at Waynetown for Clifford S. "Cliff" Davis, 80, of Rt 3, Crawfordsville, a former coach and teacher in Montgomery County who died Sunday night at Culver Hospital. THe Rev. Glen McFarland and the Rev. George Elliott will officate the service. Burial will be in Indian Creek Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. today and after 4 p.m. Wednesday. Mr. Davis had retired from teaching and coaching after 46 years. He had also officiated some high school sports. He had taught and coached baseball and basketball in Putnam, Montgomery and Newton counties.

He was a member of the Yountsville Community Church, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Montgomery County Retired Coaches Association and Montgomery County Retired Teachers Association.

Mr. Davis served on the South Montgomery School Board from July 1, 1966 through June 30, 1972. He was on the first elected board for the South Unit and served the group as secretary. He served in the US Army Medical Corps during WWII.

Mr. Davis was a graduate of Alamo HS and attended Valparaiso College before transferring to Wabash College where he was graduated in 1924. He was born in Fountain County on March 1, 1898 a son of Simon C. and Margaret Ellen VanCleave Davis.

Surviving are a sister, Miss Dorothy Davis of Rt 3, Crawfordsville; a brother-in-law, Charles Anderson of Indianapolis; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Lucy Davis of South Bend; 20 nieces and nephews; and several great nieces and great nephews.
