The body was discovered by his wife on the steps to a cave across the road from the family home. The cave is in Fountain County. Charles Fishero, Fountain County coroner, pronounced the death a suicide. He reported that an examination revealed that Mr. Davis had fired a bullet from a 22 caliber rifle into the right side of his head.
Waynetown - Manning "Stoney" Davis, 48 year old Montgomery County farmer, who had been despondent because of the condition of his health was found dead Tuesday night near his home, four miles southwest of Waynetown.

Born Aug 4, 1904 in a log cabin near the present home, Mr. Davis was the son of Isaac N. and Ida Westfall Davis. He married Margaret Bennett of Covington Sept 17, 1932. He was a member of Waynetown Baptist Church.
Mr. Davis was engaged in farming most of his life. He also had worked for the Indiana State Highway Department and the Aluminum Company of Lafayette. He was employed at the Aluminum Company at the time of his death.
Surviving are the widow; three daughters: Mrs. Virginia Long, Peru and Freidia and Ruth Davis, at home; two brothers, Walter Davis, Waynetown and Lawrence Davis, RFD, Crawfordsville and two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Connor, Waynetown and Mrs. Julia Wilson, Crawfordsville.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Waynetown Baptist Church with burial at Waynetown Masonic Cemetery, Rev. Harvey S. Burns will officiate. The casket will not be opened at the church. Friends may call at the Grenard & Servies Funeral Home. - kbz
