Davis - Betty Voorhees

Mrs. Betty Jane Davis, 50, former Crawfordsville resident, died suddenly at her home in West Lafayette shortly before Thursday midnight. She was the wife of Dale Davis, former Wabash College athletic star and later basketball coach there from 1942 through 1946. Mrs. Davis and her son, Rickey, at home on leave from the U. S. Marine Corps, had visited Thursday at the homes of a number of friends in Crawfordsville. Mrs. Davis was stricken about 11:30 p.m. Thursday at the Pine Manor Apartments where she lived in West Lafayette. The Lafayette emergenmy unit was called and gave artificial respiration and heart massage, but she was pronounced dead on arrival at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Mrs. Davis was graduated from Flora High School and attended Indiana University. She was a member of two sororities, Alpha Beta Chapter of Psi Iota Xi and of Kappa Alpha Theta. She was a member of the Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church in Crawfordsville. A daughter of Russell and Pauline Voorhees, she was born Sept. 26, 1916, in Flora. She was married on Aug. 25, 1936, to Dale Davis who survives. Surviving besides the mother and husband are her stepfather, Lee Eikenberry of Flora; three sons, Stephen of Fort Wayne, Jeffrey, a Butler University student who lives at home, and Richard, who is serving in the Marines at Camp Pendleton, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Karen Anderson of Houston, Tex., and a brother, Jack Voorhees of Rt. 2, Monticello. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Leiter Funeral Home in Flora with Rev. Milton Craig officiating. Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery in Flora.
